Queensborg

Queensborg (/queensborg/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in the Kshizbāj̼ Provence of the Kingdom of Hobben.

The name Queensborg is derived from the Sylvin language, as Queensborg was founded by Did Record, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Queensborg has a yearly average temperature of 16°C (60°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a cool 20°C (68°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 13°C (55°F). Queensborg receives an average of 246 cm/y (96 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the summer. Queensborg covers an area of nearly 5 km² (2 mi²), and an average elevation of 1316 m (4317 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Queensborg was founded durring the early 16th century in winter of the year 1506, by Did Record. The establishment of the new community went well, though many minor issues had to be solved as time went on. This was enough to delay construction and push back the formal opening ceramony, leading to some embarisment for Did Record.

Queensborg was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 16th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Queensborg is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature waddle and daub construction with good timber frames and a stone foundation protected by thatched or shingled rooves. Most buildings with second floors are built in such a way as to overhang into the streets on the upper floors for more space, as building size seems to be the primary indicator of wealth within the community. Most buildings are not decorated with any integral features, but instead use ivy, flowers, and other natural elements in planters of on trellices to breathe life into the structure they grow upon.

Queensborg is buildings are grouped arround an odd layout of spacious paverstone streets, which seems to be based on an overlapping squair patern such that there are small squares at the cornor of every bigger square. Sometimes buildings exist in the smaller squaires, other times they are open spaces, or occupied by temporary structures. The town rests behind the absurdity that is a thick, timber braced, wall made of clay bricks. While visualy impressive and certainly an astetic, Queensborg's wall provides no actual defence against siege equipment due to the choice of its cosntruction materials. Even nonexperts can tell the town is trying to impress rather than defend with its walls, towers, and gatehouses. Though admittedly, they do look nice... To primitive tribals who have never seen fortifications before. Unfortuantly, these political statment focused walls are in extreem disrepair, so much so that one cannot tell if they are decaying from a lack of mantance or damage incured.

A look around Queensborg gives you an uneasy feeling. Everything is just a little too worn down, a little too dirty, or both. No one makes eye contact. Kids play quietly, but happily. Occasionally a passerby glances at you out of the corner of their eye, staring jsut long enough for it to be uncomfortable. People seem to be allowed to do as they please with little harmoney to anything. It feels less like a town, and more like a spot people just happened to place their homes.

Civic Infrastructure

Queensborg has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Queensborg.

Queensborg has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Queensborg has a Guild of Nurses, which is tasked with caring for the elderly and infirm in accordance with local ordinances, religious values, and customs.

Queensborg has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Queensborg has a Hall of Slayers, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Queensborg has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Queensborg's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Queensborg has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Queensborg has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

Queensborg's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used which employed abundant symbolic geometry, using pure forms such as the circle and square, and plans are based on often symmetrical layouts featuring rectangular courtyards and halls. These structures were is decorated with carved stone or stucco reliefs and made use of colorful stone mosaics..

In Queensborg all of the cats speak the local language with prefect diction.

The Skinstitch near Queensborg are known to be more aggressive than normal.

Queensborg's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in spring and involves consuming a local narcotic to channel Invocation energies of tier 2 via oath swearing.

Economy

The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. It differs from Standard Imperial censuses in that many of Tom's citizens, regardless of culture, work in more than one occupation or hold more than a single job. The Imperial Census Bureau has ruled that a job is a job, hence, the intigers within the data presented here can count an individual more than once.

Due to a magical anomaly, Queensborg is directly accessible from a nearby river, despite the lack of a physical connection between the town's pond and the river.

History

Queensborg used to be more prosperous, but something happened relatively long ago that left it a shrunken shadow of its former self. If the settlement is prosperous, the locals often lament how much more they could have had. If the settlement is not prosperous, the locals blame their ill fortunes on that event. Reminders of this better time can be found in many places within Queensborg.

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century, Queensborg was attacked by savage tribes living nearby Queensborg. The details of the conflict are hazy at best due to many conflicting accounts. What is known is Queensborg lost 252 people, 275 livestock, and 42 buildings. The conflict ended after roughly 129, when members of Queensborg's militia enacted an operation to secure a particular fortification to utilize it for a specific task. The operation was complicated by a significant percentage of the militia choose to go abandon the operation and return home. The conflict ended with needing to break through the enemy's lines, which ended in a crushing defeat for Queensborg's forces. The war is remembered in legend by Queensborg's bards, historians, and legend keepers.
